SOLEDAD DE OLMOS

Affiliated Researcher  Instituto de Investigación Médica Mercedes y Martín Ferreyra

Dr. Soledad de Olmos is a Biochemist and holds a PhD in Health Sciences from the National University of Córdoba. She completed her scientific training in the Experimental Neuroanatomy Laboratory at the Instituto de Investigacion Medica Mercedes y Martin Ferreyra (IMMF), under the supervision of Dr. José S. de Olmos, specializing in brain connectivity and neurodegeneration.
She further specialized in neuroanatomy, histology, and immunohistochemistry, and completed an international stay as a laboratory manager in the laboratory of Dr. Joe C. Adams at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, USA.
Since 2010, she has directed the Neuroanatomy and Histology Core Facility at IMMF, collaborating with national and international research groups and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Her work focuses on neurodegeneration and neuroanatomical changes associated with experimental models of disease and neurotoxicity, integrating research, scientific management, and teaching.

Dr. de Olmos´s research focuses on understanding how and which brain cells die after injury or disease. By studying different models of brain damage — including drug exposure, neurodegenerative conditions, and infections — her project identify which neurons are affected and how this damage changes brain function. This work helps us better understand how the brain responds to injury, how it reorganizes itself, and how these changes influence behavior. Ultimately, the goal is to contribute to improved strategies for preventing and treating neurological disorders.
